Judge a band by its cover(s)

In honour of the fact that Yo La Tengo's new album Stuff Like That There is an odds-'n'-sods collection featuring some covers, Pitchfork's Sarah Sahim has picked their five best studio-recorded interpretations of other people's songs. Of those chosen, I only own anti-heroin anthem 'Needle Of Death' (Bert Jansch), on the Today Is The Day EP, but the others - 'Roadrunner' (Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers), 'Cast A Shadow' (Beat Happening), 'Somebody's Baby' (Jackson Browne) and 'Speeding Motorcycle' (Daniel Johnston) - are all equally brilliant.
